Following the annual trip to New York City in late October, Dr. David Krause and the students in the AIM program have been busy. In addition to regular Financial Management Association (FMA) and Investments Club meetings, the students have had an opportunity to participate in various regional and national investment competitions.

A separate blog will detail the team members and the subject company (Strattec Security, ticker STRT). The students will attend a meeting on November 30th at the company's headquarters in Milwaukee. At the CFA Kickoff meeting last week, Dr. Krause spoke to the attendees about "Careers in Finance."

Marquette's AIM program has entered two teams in the Chicago Quantitative Analysis (CQA) Challenge this year. The competition pits student teams from across the country who manage an equity long/short, market neutral portfolio of the course of the academic year. While the CFA Challenge emphasizes the importance of stock selection for success, the CQA Challenge places emphasis on risk-adjusted returns and portfolio management skills.

Dr. Krause is serving as an internal judge for Marquette's Fed Challenge team - which has two AIM students as a part of the five member team - Michael Dennison and Nate Penn. The team will compete versus other regional schools in Chicago later this month.

The FMA and Economics clubs (along with the Department of Economics and the AIM program) sponsored a 'Pre-Election Economic and Financial Policy Forum' on November 4th. The event was attended by over 50 students and Dr. Krause served as one of the panelists.

18 students and Dr. Krause attended the Chicago 'Invest For Kids' investment conference - the event featured top investment managers. Besides attending a pre-conference event with students from other regional universities, the students were pleased to meet William Heard (Marquette AIM alumnus and founder of Heard Capital, a Chicago-based hedge fund).

The AIM students have pitched over 40 stocks this semester on Friday afternoons in the AIM.

Finally, on November 10th Dr. Krause was a guest commentator on NPR's Marketplace broadcast. He talked about Federal Reserve and fiscal policy within a Trump administration and its impact on interest rates and economic growth.
